14 sensational slapstick movie suggestions for Lockdown Kids
My boys aged 4, 6, and 10 love slapstick comedies and will roll around on the floor squealing with delight when we watch Home Alone at Christmas time. They also love a good cozy movie night with sweet treats, duvets, and onesies. So I searched for the best slapstick comedies to keep us all chuckling through our Wintry Lockdown movie nights.
- Baby’s Day Out
We found this on Prime Video and thought this was like a Baby version of Home Alone and it is written and produced by the same Director John Hughes. We giggled our way through it and were amazed by the baby’s bravery, ingenuity, and unstoppable cheeriness, despite several near misses! It is inspired by a heartwarming book by the same name, which is currently selling at £170 odd pounds on Amazon! You can check out the trailer below.
2. Dennis the Menace
Another laugh-out-loud movie by the late great John Hughes, based on The American Dennis The Menace comic strip created in 1951 by Cartoonist Hank Ketcham (1920–2001). I remember enjoying the cartoon when I was younger. http://www.classickidstv.co.uk/wiki/Dennis_the_Menace_(US)
It’s different from the British Dennis the Menace from the Beano which can be seen on CBBC. I’ve posted the link below too in case you fancy that.
3. Captain Underpants
Tra la la!!! We have read and laughed our way through all 12 Captain Underpants novels and have watched this movie many times! It’s very funny with lots of play on words and hilarious scenes.
4. The Larva Island Movie
My sons have chortled their way through the many series of Larva and Larva Island so were delighted to find The Larva Island movie on Netflix! There are few words and lots of slapstick action which kept us laughing throughout this comic adventure of unlikely heroes!
5. Peter Rabbit Movie
As big Peter Rabbit Fans, we loved this action-packed movie full of jokes and slapstick humour. We all cuddled up and laughed and cheered on the animals during their action-packed, hilarious escapades.
6. Tom and Jerry
Our sons were captivated by the pan-banging Tom and Jerry episodes during the first Lockdown and discovered several feature-length movies based on classic films such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Nutcracker.
There is a new Tom and Jerry movie scheduled to be released this year.

7. Flubber
Our favourite actor Robin Williams stars as an absent-minded professor who discovers “flubber,” a rubber-like super-bouncy substance, which causes all kinds of hilarious mishaps.
8, 9, 10 and 11. Diary of a Wimpy Kid
There are 4 Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies to enjoy. We laughed our way through the lot! So try the first one and see what you think!
12, 13 and 14! Mr. Bean
The master of slapstick comedy has 3 movies to choose from and a wonderful website full of rib-tickling video clips. We like the cartoon episodes as well as the movies. Mr. Bean is a man of few words but his expressions tell the story and get us giggling! Don’t try his Popcorn up the nose and in the ears trick at home though!
I hope these movies make you laugh too! Please share any of your favourite side-splitting movies!
